Personal defibrillator in Cell Phones

Filed under: Rumours, Tech News — knight17 @ 4:58 am

An idea I found today is very nice, I think someone should actively pursue it. It will help to save a lot of lives. We already have many daily technologies built into our mobile phones. Like digital cameras, sound recorders, mp3 players, Internet browsers, GPS receivers and what not.

Sudden cardiac arrest (SCA) is responsible for more deaths every year than AIDS, breast cancer, lung cancer and stroke combined. If the heart is not defibrillated (therapeutically shocked) within a few minutes, the victim dies. Imagine how difficult it is to reach the victims of SCA in time to save their lives.

But, suppose we each carried our own personal defibrillator, say it was a feature of our cell phones?

When thought about this for a while, I have found some roadblocks. One is people’s mentality, I am not sure if it will change. “Why should I carry something like that?”. Second is technological, such a device may increase the size of the device from the comfort range and there is a chance that it may loss its appeal among the young crowds

AOL to be merged with Yahoo!

Filed under: Internet, Microsoft, Rumours, Uncategorized — knight17 @ 4:36 pm

Rumors rounding the Internet is that Yahoo! is going to merge with AOL the American Internet portal baggies, the next year (2007).But another report by imediaconnection is speculating that both AOL and Yahoo! will be acquired by some other company, most probably our software giant from Redmond, Washington. With Time Warner considering to sell AOL no one is sure about the future of AOL.

A Merrill Lynch analyst report has been came out in which they speculate that both AOL and Yahoo! are ready for a “transformation transaction in the coming 12 to 24 months.”After Google bought Youtube Fortune magazine mentioned this rumor back in October describing the merger of AOL with Yahoo! to impress the Wall Street.

So, what will happen  this story becomes true?.The userbase will multiply by manifold the product portfolio of Yahoo! (or Microsoft?) will increase at a rocket speed. As both companies (AOL, Yahoo!) are facing Investors who are doubtful about the companies competency with other Internet bigwigs like Google and Yahoo.

As the Web2.0 space becomes crowded with companies that do exactly the same thing (called clones), if a move like this happen to the classic companies of the Internet bubble, I am sure that a we will see a new era of application integration.Think about Microsoft, Yahoo! and AOL integrating their services each other that will create an immense pressure on rivals like Google. So I am adding Google (hey! they have lots of cash)also too to the list of possible acquirers of Yahoo! and AOL

From what is happening in the web2.o arena today I think Yahoo! is on an acquisition spree:

Having just announced the purchase of Bix.com, it’s being reported that they’re also buying MyBlogLog, the service that lets you track your blog visitors. Valleywag reports that the price is $10M.

Install almost any Linux Distro on PS3

Filed under: Hardware, Microsoft, Rumours, Softwares, Tech News — knight17 @ 8:14 pm

The PS3 is the most power console of the decade but it can do more than just play games.I just read an entry about PS3 being used as a Linux box.Almost any PPC version of Linux can be used.I think it is a good feature but it won’t be able to surpass a dedicated system.Play Station 3 don’t have enough RAM, and the very fact that it is not designed to run an OS but to run games/graphics in high quality. So I hope that there will be many OSS implementation like a Media Center software like the one for XBOX.Ability to run an OS is a boon but the question remains WHY?
